2nd, 3rd and 4th Class had great fun planting acorns this week. First we mixed the homemade compost and soil together. Then we dropped our acorns into water. If they floated, they were unsuitable for planting. If they sank, they were good to plant. Finally we planted the acorns horizontally in the pots and watered them. We planted 3 acorns in each pot as learned the root system in trees intertwine and trees enjoy being close together. Our acorns were gathered in Whitestown and are from an oak tree that has grown from a forest of ancient oak that was felled in the late 1930s. We are delighted to help this forest live on through our little acorns!
