The children in Infants and First Class were busy learning all about teeth and the work of the dentist. We set up our Dental Surgery rolepay area which included a waiting room, reception, dentist chair and an x-ray area. The children used toothbrushes and toothpaste to clean dirty teeth (lego pieces!). We learned all about the functions and number of our different teeth and made models of teeth! To finish off the theme, we made "Elephant's Toothpaste". We had great fun and learned the importance of keeping our teeth clean and healthy!

Art lesson in 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class for Saint Valentine's Day was inspired by Pop-Artist, Jim Dine. Such wonderful colour and technique. Well done! Daire in 6th class brought in his piano and entertained the class with his musical talent. Well done Daire - keep up the great work!! The children from 2nd to 6th class will be participating in the "Say Yes to Languages" programme over the coming weeks. They will be give the opportunity to learn some French. The children really enjoyed their first French lesson yesterday! Congratulations to our lovely 2nd Class who had their Enrolment Ceremony on Tuesday 8th February in Clonea Church. It was a prayerful and joyous occasion.
The children were so well behaved and read so prayerfully and with great confidence. We are all so proud of you. A sincere thank you to Fr. Fegan and to Mrs. O'Brien for all of her hard work preparing the class. The children in Infants and 1st Class loved learning about the work of the doctor over the past fortnight. During Aistear, the children were given the opportunity to play in our Doctors' Surgery role play area. They made appointments, examined patients and wrote prescriptions. In the construction area, the children built hospitals, ambulances and we even had a vaccination centre in the classroom!! They made lots of creations using playdough. They were so creative! In SESE, the children learned all about looking after themselves and learned how to check their heart rate (resting and after some exercise) and also learned about the lungs. They built a model of the lungs using straws and balloons and could see how our lungs work. Well done boys and girls!
The children in 3rd and 4th Class enjoyed doing group projects on The Titanic. They researched the topic using our school iPads and learned so much about its construction, maiden voyage including its sinking. We are looking forward to visiting the Titanic Visitor Centre in Cobh on our school trip in June. The children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes studied the German artist, Franz Marc. They drew the 'Blue Horse', Yellow Cow' and 'Purple Fox' using crayon and chalk pastels and are looking forward to using paint next. They also wrote fabulous reports. Fantastic as always! Pictured below are Saoirse, Holly and Megan who were our winners of the "Handwriter of the Month" award. ✏️
